Motto : ASPICE, RESPICE, ET VALE
Remark :
With a ''common'' bifilar sundial on can read the time the crossing of the two shadows.
On this unusual sundial the two threads are replaced by a simple style and a chain.
You read the time as with any common horizontal dial (the shadow on the hour lines). As for the date it is to be read at the crossing of the shadows of both the style and the chain on the calendar lines.
As far as the computing of this sundial, it is handy that the chain - suspended on two points - always keep the same predetermined form, mathematically computed - the ''chain line''. A moondial is to be seen arounf the style. When there is sufficient light coming from the moon (e.g. at Full Moon) it becomes posible to read the time.
